This meeting will be our monthly competition. All photos (time permitting) will be critiqued. The January, 2020, theme is “Oldies“. The normal 2 year restriction for this open themed night does not apply. Dig into the archives and let’s see your favorites! You may submit any of your images which have not previously won any NAPfS competition awards.
Submit your photos at https://napfs.club/competitions/competition-submission/
More Awards in 2020!
The number of awards is potentially increasing for 2020. In 2019, the number of awards was up to 25% of submissions. In 2020, the number of awards is at least 25% of submissions. What does this mean? In 2019, the number of awards per class was the number of entries divided by four and the fractional part was discarded (i.e. the number was truncated to an integer). In 2020, the number of awards per class is the number of entries divided by four and then rounded up to the next integer (unless the result is already an integer). For example, with 17 entries, there would have been 4 awards in 2019, but there are 5 awards in 2020.
Mark Laussade is moderating and controlling the photo judging. He recruits four judges from the winners of the Class 3 competition. Three judges will rate each photo, and one of the judges will give a critique. There are four judges so that none of the judges gets to rate his/her own photos.
You may have heard that our club is testing out a new website which includes a new streamlined process for photo competitions. We ask that you help us evaluate the new website and its function by registering as a club member at napfs.visualpursuits.com. Please create an account with a Username and Password. The club will validate your membership with an email soon afterward and will assign you to a competition level (basic, intermediate, advanced) based on your previous entries. If you are new to competition, we will assign you to the basic level, unless you request to be in a higher level be emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Once you are notified of validation, please log in to the new club website again and go to the Competition tab. Here you can select Submit Images to a Competition and follow the instructions. Your entries will now be placed in the new judging system that we are testing alongside our old process. Thank you for participating. The new website offers the club many improvements over our old process and we hope that you will agree.
The popular voting is open now and will close at the end of the meeting. The “people’s choice” vote at this meeting is held through the Virtual Pursuits website. You must have an account to vote. If you don’t have an account, go to http://napfs.visualpursuits.com and create an account (start with the “Login” button).
Once you’ve logged into the Virtual Pursuits website, go to “Competitions / Vote on Competition Images” and select “January 2019- Oldies”. You can vote on all three classes: “Basic” (Class 1), “Intermediate” (Class 2), and “Advanced” (Class 3). The instructions for voting are on this page.
It will probably be much easier to vote on a desktop or laptop computer than on a cell phone, so you might want to consider voting before the meeting.
This is a free, public meeting so invite a buddy! but we encourage all to join the club if you regularly visit. Because then you get to enter our competitions and participate in other club activities!
