Competition Only Meeting, November 7, 2019

This meeting will be our monthly competition.  All photos (time permitting) will be critiqued.

Each member present can also join in by voting for his/her favorite two photos from each class.  See the instructions for “popular voting” below.

Photo Competition

Classes 1 and 2 Judges Allen Irby, Bill Bunton, Phil Hawkins with Moderator Mark Laussade

We held a critique-only meeting on October 3, 2019, and it was a big success.  Mark Laussade recruited four judges, all of whom are club members.  Mark moderated the judging with three judges per class.   For each photo, three judges gave each photo a rating, and these ratings were used to determine the winners.  One of the three voting judges gave a critique of the photo.

Class 3 Judges Stephen Brkich, Bill Bunton, Phil Hawkins with Moderator Mark Laussade

When all photos in each class were rated, the winners were chosen using their ratings.  In the case of a tie, the judges voted again on the tied images.

The judging for the November 7 meeting will be very similar, with multiple judges chosen from the NAPfS membership.

Popular Voting

Clay Leben will conduct a popular vote via the “Sli.do” app.  This will allow the audience to vote for their favorite photos.  Anyone who wishes to vote can download the Android or Apple app “Sli.do“.  The app will ask for a code which Clay will supply at the meeting.  For each competition class, people can vote for their two favorite photos using their smart phones or tablets.  When the judging for each class is done, Clay will announced the results, which will also be available on the app to everyone who voted.

The popular voting is for fun only; it does not affect the awards given by the judges (i.e. 1st place, 2nd place, etc.).

Download the “Sli.do” app and come prepared ready to vote!
