Join professional photographer Randy Dykstra on an exciting birding and wildlife photography adventure in Bosque Del Apache, New Mexico!
Date: December 9-12, 2018
Location: Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, Socorro, New Mexico (in the upper Rio Grande River Valley area)
Cost: Special NAPfS member price, $99 + lodging, $150 non-members + lodging
Lodging: 10 rooms reserved on first come, first serve basis in Socorro NM. Single bed room runs $65/night, and two bed room $70 per night. Alternative lodging can be arranged individually as you prefer.
What to expect:
Join Randy and members of the North Austin Pfotographic Society in Bosque Del Apache, a beautiful and renowned mecca for wildlife, birding, and landscape photographers!
This 4 day photography opportunity is a trip into wildlife paradise. You will witness tens of thousands of winter migrating waterfowl, such as snow geese and sand hill cranes, on display. This protected wetlands is also home to ducks, eagles, blackbirds, ravens, hawks, and coots, and more. Enjoy beautiful sunsets, sweeping vistas, and even coyotes, javelina, jackrabbits, and mule deer. You will experience this all up close and personal, with an expert professional along to help guide you.
Day 1, Dec. 9th: Transportation to Socorro, New Mexico. Meet at 7 pm to get information.
In additional to the trip itself, you will receive a presentation on how to photograph wildlife, and set up your camera for the best success. (including a PDF of presentation materials). Randy will also be sharing some of the better viewing locations, to maximize your fun.
Day 2-3, Dec. 10th & 11th: Meet for quick breakfast at 5:30 am. We need to be on site no later than 6:15 am
- After the “blast off” we’ll will take a leisurely tour of the refuge in the morning, with the afternoon free to explore on your own or join me for sunset photos.
- Optionally we may try to accomplish some astro-photography (weather permitting) 9 pm
Day 4, Dec. 12th: Meet for breakfast and go to site 5:30 am.
- For those driving, we will optionally go to Carlsbad caverns and visit that National Park.
- Leave BDA at approx 9am. Others are free to explore and return at their leisure.
Other important details:
Recommended equipment: DSLR camera – Lens between 200 and 500mm focal length – Tripod or monopod
Tour Excludes: Ground transportation, lodging, food and personal items and any parking fees. (if applicable) National refuge pass ($5 per day unless you have an annual “America the Beautiful” pass)
You are responsible for any personal accidents or incidents during event and/or transportation to and from site.
Refund policy: 100% refund (minus any credit card charges) is available up to 60 days prior to event. 50% is available up to two weeks prior. Within two weeks no refund is available. All monies to be managed through Randy Dykstra’s sign up page.
