2018 Competition Themes

Themes are intentionally open ended. You can be creative in their interpretation, however, the competition judge has absolute authority to disqualify an image for not meeting the theme.

Your image needs to match the theme visually without explanation. If you’re too clever, the judge may not get it.

The 2018 competition themes are…

January – Open theme

February – Oldies Night

Any 2 photos can be entered, and the normal 2 year restriction for this open themed month does not apply.

March – Red Dazzle

Red, red, red! It’s everywhere! Here’s your chance to submit images that show visions of RED in your most creative ways. Remember the Red Ruleif it’s red, shoot it!

April – Open theme

May – Open theme

June – Oh, So Close

Yup, it’s macro time. Up close… as close as you can get – abstract, floral, mechanical, nature, critters – anything, really. The theme may be small, but the possibilities are huge!

July – Open theme

August – Open theme

September – After Hours

“The Night Time Is the Right Time,” Ray Charles soulfully sings, and September’s competition is all about the time after the Sun goes down.

October – Open theme

November – Yin and Yang

To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them. ~ Elliott Erwitt

December – The 3rd Annual NAPƒS Awards Ceremony & Year-end Potluck

There is no competition in December. The last meeting of the year is dedicated to the 3rd Annual NAPƒS Awards Ceremony & Year-end Potluck, where the club’s Pfotographer of the Year, People’s Choice, and Critic’s Choice awards will be presented.

The Pfotographer of the Year, our NAPƒS member who amassed the most points in our 2018 monthly competitions, will be announced.

Members attending the December meeting will pick their fave shot of 2018, the People’s Choice Award, from all competition winners via paper ballot.

We’ll also have one of our 2018 speakers present a Critic’s Choice Award, selected from all 2018 competition winners.

This is a mostly social gathering and pot luck. It’s a great way to support fellow members. And, well, food. Yum!
